On October 9, 2024, Viva College School in Jinja hosted a vibrant Cultural Day celebration, commemorating Uganda’s rich heritage and diversity. The event coincided with Uganda’s Independence Day, enhancing the festivities and providing a platform for students to showcase their cultural roots through various performances, art displays, and traditional cuisine.

The celebration commenced with a colourful parade featuring students dressed in traditional attire representing different Ugandan ethnic groups, including the Baganda, Basoga, Bakiga, and others. The school’s principal, Mr. Alfred Denis Anguyo, welcomed attendees, emphasizing the importance of cultural pride and unity among the youth.

“We celebrate not just our independence but also the diverse cultures that make up our nation,” he stated. “It’s essential for our students to appreciate and uphold their heritage.”

The highlight of the day was a series of performances that captivated the audience. Students showcased traditional dishes such as the Banyankole’s ”Millet and beans stew” and the Baganda’s “Luwombo,” accompanied by live dancing and singing where the team to represent Viva college at wonder world on 7th and 8th December for MDD had a brief trailer of their out of this world routine. The enthusiasm and skill displayed by the performers received rapturous applause from parents, teachers, and fellow students.

In addition to the performances, various stalls were set up around the school grounds, featuring culinary delights from different regions of Uganda and East Africa. From delicious Ugandan matoke and posho to savoury Kenyan and South Sudanese dishes. Attendees had the opportunity to savour the country’s rich flavors.

Interactive workshops were held throughout the day, allowing students to engage more deeply with their cultural heritage. Participants learned traditional dishes , games and proverbs, guided by local artisans and teachers. These hands-on activities not only fostered creativity but also helped preserve traditional skills that are at risk of fading away.

As the day drew to a close, CHAIRMAN reiterated the significance of such events in fostering cultural awareness and appreciation among the youth. “Understanding our culture is crucial for building a strong national identity,” he remarked. “We hope to inspire our students to take pride in their roots.”

The Cultural Day celebration at Viva College School was a resounding success, leaving students, parents, and staff with a deeper appreciation for Uganda’s diverse cultural landscape. Events like these play a vital role in uniting communities and nurturing a sense of belonging among the younger generation.

On October 6, 2024, Viva College School in Jinja held a heartfelt dedication ceremony for its Senior Four candidates, marking a pivotal moment in their academic journey as they prepare for their upcoming Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations. The event brought together students, parents, teachers, and community members to celebrate the candidates’ achievements and offer support as they embark on this critical phase of their education.

The ceremony began with a warm welcome from the school’s principal, Mr. Alfred Denis Anguyo, who expressed pride in the students’ hard work and resilience. “Today, we stand together to support our candidates as they take this important step towards their futures,” he said. “Your dedication and commitment will pave the way for your success.”

Speeches of Encouragement
